tilegroutcalc is an independent site. It works out how many tiles, how much grout and how many bags of thinset a job takes, and nothing else.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure on the site is either computed by a published formula or restated from a cited manufacturer data sheet. Tile counts divide the area by the tile's nominal size and add the waste allowance TileBuys publishes: 10% for a straight lay, 15% for a diagonal one. Grout comes from the makers' own coverage charts, and where a chart prints no figure for a tile and joint, from the joint's volume with a density fitted to that chart. Thinset comes from the mortar's trowel chart. Each page lists the documents its numbers came from, with the date they were retrieved. The calculator in your browser runs the same formulas as the page it sits on.

What the site does not do

It sells nothing and takes no money from any manufacturer; a product is named only to say whose published figures are being restated. It does not advise on installation. For that, follow the manufacturer's current data sheet.
